Los Angeles, May 5, 2021 — Peace4Kids, a pioneering, community-based organization advancing equity for youth in foster care, today announced that it has received a $100,000 donation from Fashion Nova, a world-leading e-commerce fashion lifestyle brand.
“We are extremely grateful for this generous gift from Fashion Nova and will use it to launch an innovative, youth-led initiative at Peace4Kids for National Foster Care Month,” said Zaid Gayle, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Peace4Kids.
The gift will be used to launch the Revolution of Care Movement (ROC Move), an evidence-based research initiative by Peace4Kids designed to improve public perception of youth in foster care through transmedia, training, and social action. This movement began in response to a widely held concern among the youth at Peace4Kids that the public treated them like “criminals” and “victims”. This sentiment has evolved into a formalized research project and will debut its findings later this month.
Under the mentorship of Gayle, ROC Move leadership will broadly unite the voices of youth and adults from foster care (YAFC) to challenge negative media portrayals and create a positive long-term transformation in the foster care system.
Gayle also acknowledged Angelica Nwandu, Founder of The Shade Room, as being instrumental in procuring this significant gift from Fashion Nova and inspiring the launch of ROC Move. Nwandu, an alum of Peace4Kids , has established herself as a media mogul through her top-performing media company that’s been recognized by Forbes magazine as well as other publications.
